This month we had city staff join us for a discussion on the recently released CodeNext Draft Text.

We also kicked off our first attempt at satellite meetings.  The regular meeting was primarily for folks willing to host satellite meetings elsewhere in District 6 on this topic in March. The CodeNext process can be complicated, so we want to ensure time for questions and answers that can be difficult to accomplish with more than 70 people packed into the library.

Newly-elected Austin City Council Member Jimmy Flannigan gave a review of the city's recent strategic planning efforts, an update on next steps for Anderson Mill Road, and a preview of the next round of citizen-led efforts for Duval Road and the Four Points area.  There was also a group discussion about CodeNext.

Thanks to Ed Van Eenoo, Deputy Chief Financial Officer, for attending our meeting and giving us an overview of how the city budgets and plans long-term spending and bond monies. As requested, the current 5 year plan has a chart of what is left to be spent from prior bond elections. You can see how quickly previous bonds were spent on page 585/586 here:

Our annual budget review meeting covered all the major areas, including the detail budget information for Austin Police, Fire, EMS, Parks, Library, and Health & Human Services. We also briefly discussed what we can do better in the budget process and what to look forward to in the coming city manager hiring process.
